Multi-platinum rapper Devin has it all. Money, cars, fame, women— he’s living the life of a rockstar. As with anything in life, all good things come to the end of its cycle, and God takes you off of a path so that you can begin anew. Devin stops getting booked for shows, and it causes a ripple effect on his life. Now unable to take care of his family, he turns to heavy drug use to take his mind off of the pain. When the money stops flowing, all of the love that he thought was genuine, doesn’t exist at all. Scandal after scandal surfaces on all of the major blog sites, allegations and rumors, liens from the IRS, and now rumors of his ties to murder-for-hire plots has him mentally defeated. It’s just him against the world until he meets and helps Ashlon when she too was down and out. A good girl with problems of her own, Ashlon understands him in a way that nobody else cares to. She vows to do all she can to help him the same way that he helped her when nobody else would. The question is… can Devin escape his spiraling rollercoaster of drug and alcohol addiction enough to help himself? Can he defeat his demons and pull back to reality long enough to accept help? Or will the devil continue to break and take him under? Certified tear-jerker based on a true story.

This is a story of addiction and redemption, of overcoming some of life’s most overwhelming obstacles with the help of God and his most qualified angels.

–An intimate portrait of a boy becoming a man right before your very eyes. Author David Weaver pens a riveting drama that is sure to become a staple in your African American romance and biography collection.

This is a story t has needed to be told. In our community the black man is looked upon as the savior, however, they never let us women in as to their struggles. We have to be vigilant in helping with this struggle of addiction and not turn our heads. Love this story

I loved this book. I finished it in no time. Reading this book inspired me. When I got to the end I immediately prayed for you David. I can relate to you in so many ways. But always remember that the strong faith that you have is all you need to get thru the pain. I had to learn that the hard way. But I’m gonna continue to pray for you everyday! & don’t stop writing! You are very talented 🙂 I can’t wait to see what the next book is about. STAY STRONG ! STAY FOCUSED ! PRAY UNTIL YOU CAN’T ANYMORE !

Thank you for writing a book that spoke in real and meaningful words. I know that life can be challenging at times but I look at things in a different way. I feel that the first 50 years are for learning and the next 50 for living. When you feel that you lived so much and for so long in the first 50 years, you literally have another lifetime of those amount of years ahead. I call myself now in Phase 2 of my life from 50-100. Who knows, after 50 more years, there may be a start of a phase 3. I am enjoying Phase 2 because of the learning of experiences from Phase 1. I know what I will and won’t tolerate and am now living and enjoying a life with family, true friends and inner peace.

I couldn’t put this book down. It spoke to me in so many ways. Right when I thought I knew what was going to it did a 360 just like my life. This book is real in so many ppl lives. It let me know I wasn’t the only one who felt this was at times. A very good read and cry of happy tears. I can’t wait to read the next part.

  5. Spiceylady

This book was beautifully written. I like that as a black man he was pushed by a father who’d never forgotten him, showed him to stand up and fight.

  6. Deborah Pinckney

This was by far the best novel I have read real talk. I am saved but this story have my faith going in a better direction why because I had little faith in God. But seeing how what the devil meant for bad in Devins life God used it for his good. I will be rereading it again. Keep up the good work.

  7. ree

  14. Meaneme

Powerful and explosive read from beginning to end. It’s true we never realize what demons a successful person or any other person battles daily. I pray for deliverance of anyone fighting these demons. BUT GOD he never fails or falter. Trust in him and this too shall pass. #Meaneme

  15. Leni

  17. Tanya Cooper

I haven’t written a review in awhile, but was compelled to do so. Broken Crayons is a great read with invaluable life lessons. At times I found myself: praying, laughing talking aloud, and crying. The characters were relatable, like a crazy family member, people who’ve wronged you, and that one person that no matter what has your back and loves you unconditionally. I read both books in 2 days and high recommend that you read it and then share it with all your reading pals.To the Author: thank you for sharing your life, testimony and self with us, unconditionally. There were a trillion life lessons to start my New Year!

  18. nadine charleus

Wow. I have no worlds because this book is so captivating and good. I been where devin was because when my mother died when I was 10 years old I didn’t know what was going on and I keep asking for my mother. When I was 13 years that when it fully settled in that I have no mother anymore. I also have an eating disorder called pica and I am still struggling with it and I was cleaned for 5 years and then I relapsed and I’m trying to be clean but it is so hard. I know how it feels to have no body in your corner when you need them the most after everything you did for them. I applaud David weaver for this book because we are seeing his story and everything he been through and still going through. I’m so sorry about your daughter David.

  19. Andrea E. White

This book reminds us to have faith even when we feel like giving up! Great book and a great message.

  20. Kindle Customer

I can’t even describe what I felt as I read this book. It’s marked as a classic in my library. Thank you so much David Weaver!!

  21. Amazon Customer

This really was a great book. It’s a must read. I’m going to download part 2 as soon as I’m done with this review. I’m not usually into praying or religious thing but i don’t feel like it was overwhelming. I love the lessons that were taught and learned. This story is very relatable on many levels whether your the person that is down or out currently. Or maybe you whetheres the storm and you are currently becoming someone else’s blessing. Or if your teaching some to whether the storm. Or just supporting someone in the most simple way.I definitely recommend reading it. I def relate to the main character in many ways like how he is always there to help any and everyone even when he can’t help himself.

  22. blessedwoman

This is a must read, this is actually my second time reading this book I read it when it first came out and I just read it again, this book is so uplifting I loved it all

  23. Sally

The story is a good one but the amount of typos drove me crazy. Also I’m not a fan of coarse language, although I do understand the relationship it had to the culture of the story. Still, those factors made it difficult for me to truly enjoy the book and it is doubtful that I will read the second book.

  24. joy123

I’m a fan of your but this book right here just touch my soul. Omg!!😭 I cried with you and I prayed with you. When you speak the truth of God word. He Will always bless it. Love it!! Please don’t stop what you doing and keep praying.Great read!!

  25. Kindle Customer

Words can’t even express how I feel right now. This was a phenomenal read, one of the best I’ve read in a long time, and I read at least 2 books a week. Tears would not hold back as I read this and thought of my son, that I have no idea of his whereabouts. I pray for this author, my son, and those like them. Visits a very present help in the time of need. Be Blessed

  26. Whitney Denton

This book was good from start to finish. I’m so glad Devin was able to overcome, but that’s what happens when you have people praying for you and you give and do from the heart!! May you overcome your battles…speak deliverance!! Life or death lies in the power of the tongue. Just know your battles are not in vain and God is bigger than anything you face. Blessings to you! Praying for you!!

  31. Deanna jenkins

I found this book to be a quick but interesting read. It was almost like you wanted to tell the story to others after reading it. You could really sympathize with some of the issues Devin struggled with. All while reading it slipped my mind that it was based on a true story.

  32. Kindle Customer

First let me start off by saying I read the entire book in 3 hours. That should tell you something this book is everything and so relatable, I wanted to slap Lika but I truly enjoyed the book.

Mr.David, God has not forgotten and his plan for you to reach the masses is still the same. This is just a rough patch and this to shall pass. Your story is a testimony of what our young black men and women needed to hear. Love is something that was taught in my home since I was a little girl and with that I’ve realize that love conquers all, and it help build you up when your down. God is love and he will never forsake you.
